Port St. Joe is a city located in Gulf County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,644. It is the county seat of Gulf County6.

census of 2000, there are 3,644 people, 1,402 households, and 1,030 families residing in the city. The population density is 423.8/km² (1,097.4/mi²). There are 1,571 housing units at an average density of 182.7/km² (473.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 68.52% White, 30.10% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 0.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,402 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% are married couples living together, 14.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% are non-families. 24.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.94. In the city the population is spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 88.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.7 males. The median income for a household in the city is $33,800, and the median income for a family is $39,489. Males have a median income of $30,244 versus $21,111 for females.
