Rajputs
Rajputs (son of a king) are the majority of the people in
Rajasthan. Most of them belong to the warrior classes (Kshatriyas). Since their kingdoms were very close to the
Khyber Pass, they bore the brunt of most foreign invasions to India, including the
Arabs and
Mughals. Rajputs themselves are thought to be the descendants of
Huns.
Mythologically, Rajputs are supposed to have originated from the sacred fire in a ceremony performed by Sage Vashishtha. These four warriors, whose names are given to the Rajput classes, were Agnikul, Yadaukul, Suryakul and Odak.
