Ralph Ellison

Ralph Ellison (1914-1994), scholar, writer

Born Ralph Waldo Ellison on March 1, 1914 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma he was an African American author best known for his novel Invisible Man, which won the National Book Award in 1953.

In 1970, Ellison was made a Professor at New York University.

Ralph Ellison died on April 16, 1994 of pancreatic cancer and is buried in Washington Heights.
