Rockefeller Republican refers to the values similar to Nelson Rockefeller, governor of New York in the late 1960s -- liberal domestic policy and a conservative foreign affairs policy. In the United States, as the Democratic party became more liberal and the Republican party more conservative, Rockefeller Republicans became more rare.
