Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles
As of 2003 the
Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles covers the
City of Los Angeles as well as
Los Angeles,
Santa Barbara and
Ventura counties,
California. With over four million catholics in the diocese's juristiction, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is the largest diocese in the
United States.
The Archbishop of Los Angeles is also the Metropolitan of the Los Angeles Province. The suffragan dioceses of the province include Fresno, Monterey in California, Orange in California, San Bernardino, and San Diego.
The Diocese of Los Angeles-San Diego was established on June 1, 1922, and was split into the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Diocese of San Deigo on July 11, 1936.
