History
The distillery was built in 1812 by William Fraser on the estate of Cawdor Castle, the scene of the death of King Duncan in William Shakespear's Macbeth. In 1835, Royal Brackla became the first whisky to receive the Royal Warrant, by order of King William IV of the United Kingdom. The distillery was expanded in 1970, closed in 1985, and reopened in 1991.
