Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
The
Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (or
RSPCA for short) is a British charitable organisation that promotes
animal welfare. It is funded by voluntary donations. It was founded as the SPCA in
1824, by a group of 22 reformers led by Richard Martin MP, and was granted its royal status by
Queen Victoria in
1840.
