The Ruhr University Bochum (German: Ruhr-Universität Bochum; colloquial: Ruhr-Uni or RUB) located on the southern hills of central Ruhr area Bochum was founded in 1962, the first new public university in Germany after World War II.
Lectures began in 1965. Now (2003) there are nearly 35,000 students at the Ruhr University.
