Saint Afra
Saint Afra (died 304), allegedly originally a
courtesan in
Augsburg, sheltered the
bishop who had converted her. The authorities of the
Diocletian persecution condemned her to burn alive, then burnt her mother Saint Hilaria and her maids Ligna, Eunonia and Eutropia as they interred her in a vault.
The feast of Saint Afra occurs on 5 August.
