Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 8.5 km² (3.3 mi²). 8.5 km² (3.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 542 people, 179 households, and 136 families residing in the town. The population density is 63.6/km² (164.5/mi²). There are 209 housing units at an average density of 24.5 persons/km² (63.4 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 75.28% White, 0.18% African American, 1.48% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 21.40% from other races, and 1.66% from two or more races. 65.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 179 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 24.0% are non-families. 22.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.03 and the average family size is 3.59.

In the town the population is spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 110.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.1 males.
