Salvador is a
1986 film which tells the story of an American journalist in
El Salvador covering the story of the
assassination of
Archbishop Oscar Romero. While trying to get his Salvadoran girlfriend out of the country, he becomes entangled with both leftist guerrillas and rightist military. It stars
James Woods,
James Belushi, Michael Murphy,
John Savage, Elpidia Carrillo, Tony Plana, Cynthia Gibb and José Carlos Ruiz.
The movie was written by Oliver Stone and Rick Boyle, and was directed by Stone.
It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (James Woods) and Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.
