Sand Lake is a town located in Sawyer County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 774.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 133.5 km² (51.6 mi²). 120.1 km² (46.4 mi²) of it is land and 13.4 km² (5.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.07% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 774 people, 347 households, and 229 families residing in the town. The population density is 6.4/km² (16.7/mi²). There are 1,147 housing units at an average density of 9.5/km² (24.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 83.98% White, 0.00% African American, 14.86% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 347 households out of which 18.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.3% are married couples living together, 6.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.0% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.70. In the town the population is spread out with 18.5% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 20.2% from 25 to 44, 30.0% from 45 to 64, and 24.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 112.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 110.3 males.
