Shire Counties

In the United Kingdom shire county means any non-metropolitan administrative county. The term originates because most of these end in "shire", for example Lincolnshire. There are some shire counties that don't end in shire, for example Suffolk.

The term Shire County is a tautology, the word County coming from french and Shire from Saxon.
