Sidney is a city located in Cheyenne County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,282. It is the county seat of Cheyenne County6.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 6,282 people, 2,621 households, and 1,672 families residing in the city. The population density is 393.1/km² (1,018.5/mi²). There are 2,890 housing units at an average density of 180.8/km² (468.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.22% White, 0.18% African American, 0.76% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.07% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. 5.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,621 households out of which 31.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% are non-families. 31.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.96. In the city the population is spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.0 males. The median income for a household in the city is $33,935, and the median income for a family is $41,050. Males have a median income of $30,286 versus $20,000 for females.
