Sometime In New York City

Sometime In New York City was John Lennon's third solo album, recorded in his new home, New York (obviously). This was Lennon's Greenwich Village and protest rock period. He was hanging out with Jerry Rubin's crowd. In an act of artistic suicide he went into the studio with the semi-professional Elephants Memory Band. Adding to this he included many tracks with Yoko Ono singing, culminating in the disastrous duet "Angela".

"Woman Is The Nigger Of The World", based on a phrase Yoko Ono had used in the sixties, is the last of his noble rock anthems, written in the gospel style of "House Of The Rising Sun" and featuring one his most powerful outros.

The remainder of the album lies somewhere between the competent and the amateur. Mind Games saw a return to form.
