Demographics

census of 2000, there are 352 people, 154 households, and 93 families residing in the village. The population density is 197.0/km² (513.0/mi²). There are 166 housing units at an average density of 92.9/km² (241.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 24.43% White, 73.86% African American, 0.57% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 2.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 154 households out of which 29.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 21.4% are married couples living together, 33.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.0% are non-families. 35.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.93. In the village the population is spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 62.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 61.8 males.
