The K-77, after decommissioning in 1994, was sold and spent time in Finland as a floating restaurant. The venue was apparently more appropriate for drinking than eating, and K-77: the Restaurant became K-77: the not-so-chic Vodka Bar.
Another entrepreneur with the star and sickle in his eyes leased the boat to become a tourist attraction in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA. Once again, however, the dreamed-of hordes of tourists failed to materialize. The owner's agent attempted to sell her on e-Bay, but the $1 million reserve price was not met.
Another savior appeared, this time in the guise of Paramount Pictures, who moved the boat to Halifax for K-19: The Widowmaker filming, after a season in dry dock. But with filming complete, the Canadian authorities threated to tow her, and the film company and her owners disputed ownership. K-77's future was again in doubt.
But the USS Saratoga Museum Foundation had a use for her.
K-77 is currently berthed in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, where she plays hostess to tourists in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the Foundations's ultimate goal: to open the Saratoga as a public education center. The Russian Royal Navy standard now flies atop her sail, but beneath the standard of her originally sworn enemy.
