Standing rigging
On a
sailboat, the
standing rigging is that collection of lines which are fixed. Standing rigging includes a
forestay, a
backstay and the
shrouds. On modern yachts, standing rigging is often stainless
steel wires or stainless steel rods. Standing rigging is placed under tension to keep the various spars (
mast, bowsprit) securely in position.
Contrast with running rigging.
