Strangers With Candy
Strangers with Candy was a
American sitcom that aired on
Comedy Central in 1999 and 2000. It centered around Jerry Blank (played by
Amy Sedaris), a 47-year old high school freshman. Other prominent characters included Jerry's art teacher, Geoffrey Jellyneck (played by Paul Dinello ), Jerry's history teacher, Chuck Noblet (played by
Stephen Colbert), and the pricipal of Flatpoint High, Onyx Blackman (Greg Hollimon). The stars and creators of the series were all alumni of Chicago's
Second City comedy troupe.
According to the show's introduction, after dropping out of high school as a teenager, Jerry ran away from home, and became "a boozer, a user, and a loser". It is suggested that she was a prostitute and served time in jail.
