Stryker

Stryker is a family of eight wheel, eight wheel drive, armoured combat vehicles used by the US Army. Stryker is based on the LAV III light-armoured verhicle which in turn is based on the Mowag Piranha.

Stryker is named in honor of two American servicemen: Robert F. Stryker, who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Vietnam War, and Pfc. Stuart S. Stryker, who received the award for his actions during World War II. Both men were killed in action.

Variants

Stryker variants include the Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV) and the Mobile Gun System (MGS).

The ICV has these configurations:

Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBC RV)
Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM)
Medical Evacuation Vehicle (MEV)
Mortar Carrier (MC)
Engineer Squad Vehicle (ESV)
Command Vehicle (CV)
Fire Support Vehicle (FSV)
and the Reconnaissance Vehicle (RV).

They have parts commonality and self-recovery abilities and are equipped with a central tire inflation system
