Summit of the Americas
The
Summit of the Americas is the name for one of a sequence of summits bringing together the countries of the
Americas for discussion of a variety of issues:
- Miami Summit of the Americas, in Miami, Florida, United States, in 1994;
- Santiago Summit of the Americas, in Santiago, Chile, in 1998;
- Quebec City Summit of the Americas, in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, in 2001;
- Monterrey Summit of the Americas, in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2004.
The one most in the public eye was the Quebec City Summit of the Americas, since its discussion of the
Free Trade Area of the Americas provoked a very large
anti-globalization protest and attendant police response.
