Franco Harris, Pittsburgh |
Super Bowl IX was game that matched two of the NFL's greatest ever defenses -- Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain against the Purple People Eaters of Minnesota -- and two legendary quarterbacks: Terry Bradshaw and Fran Tarkenton, respectively.
The defenses won the first half, whose only score was a safety forced by the Pittsburgh. A 6 yard Franco Harris run made it 9-0 in the third quarter. In the fourth the Vikings rallied to 9-6 with a pair of field goals before Bradshaw hit tight end Larry Brown from 3 yards out to put the game away.
