Syndrome

in Medicine

a grouping or constellation of disease features that is a consistent pattern indicating a particular disease process. Many syndromes are eponomous or named after the discovering person.

Examples: Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, Cushing's Syndrome, Down's Syndrome, SIADH, sick building syndrome

In recent years the best-known use of the word has been in the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or AIDS.
