Tarondor succeeded his uncle Telemnar, who died in the Great Plague of T.A. 1636, coming to the throne when he was still young and was the longest-reigning King of Gondor.
War and plague had tortured his country and Tarondor strove to rebuild it and its power. The most significant event in his reign was the removal of the capital from Osgiliath to Minas Anor. He was succeeded by his son Telumehtar in T.A. 1798.
