census of 2000, there are 859 people, 393 households, and 227 families residing in the town. The population density is 212.6/km² (549.8/mi²). There are 446 housing units at an average density of 110.4/km² (285.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.74% White, 0.00% African American, 0.81% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 1.51% from two or more races. 1.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 393 households out of which 27.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.5% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.2% are non-families. 39.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.19 and the average family size is 2.92. In the town the population is spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.0% who are 65 years of age or older.
