The Cramps
American
punk rock band formed by Lux Interior and
Poison Ivy (a contraction of her original stagename, "Poison Ivy Rorschach") in
1976.
The Cramps mixed early
rockabilly and sixties
garage rock to create their sound, and added lyrics and an image that alluded to
1950s and
1960s horror movies to create their style.
They are credited with coining the term "psychobilly" although both Lux Interior and Poison Ivy are adamant that this does not accurately reflect their style of play.
Other band members: Kid Congo Powers
