Theodotus of Byzantium
Theodotus of Byzantium, also known as
Theodotus the Shoemaker was an early
Christian theologian of the
2nd century in
Byzantium. He was who claimed that
Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit as a mortal man, was adopted by God at his
baptism, but was not himself
God until after his
resurrection.
This doctrine is sometimes called "Dynamic Monarchianism" or "Adoptionism".
This was declared heresy by Pope Victor I, and Theodotus was excommunicated.
