THF

THF is tetrahydrofuran, a chemical, is one of the most polar ethers and is used as a solvent for polar reagents. It is used in organic chemistry reactions such as the oxymercuration reaction, where it helps the alkene dissolve in water. THF, also known as 1,4-epoxybutane, butylene oxide, cyclotetramethylene oxide, oxacyclopentane, diethylene oxide, oxolane, or furanidine, has the chemical formula (C2H4)2O. THF is a clear, low-viscosity liquid with an ether-like smell. At room temperature, THF is completely miscible with water. Since THF tends to form peroxides on storage, THF is often inhibited with BHT.
