Thomas A. C. Jones naval career service was during the War of 1812. He also participated in the formalization of the treaty with King Kamehameha III of the Sandwich islands in 1826. Before formal hostilities had begun between the U.S.A. and Mexico in 1842, he seized the area of Monterey, California. He served in the Mexican-American War.
