Born Chaim Topol in Tel Aviv, Topol came to international attention with his starring (and Academy Award) nominated role in Fiddler on the Roof. Other roles were in Cast a Giant Shadow and the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only.
Received a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for his performance as Tevye in "Fiddler on the roof" in 1972
