Turkmenbashi
Turkmenbashi ("Leader of the Turkmen") is the self-proclaimed title of the
president for life of the Republic of
Turkmenistan,
Saparmurat Niyazov.
Turkmenbashi is also a city in
Turkmenistan, on the shore of the
Caspian Sea. Its name until 1993 was Krasnovodsk. Population 51,000.
The city was founded in 1869.
A ferry service connects Turkmenbashi to Baky, Azerbaijan.
