Turrell is a city located in Crittenden County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 957.

Geography

Turrell is located at 35°22'35" North, 90°15'52" West (35.376351, -90.264583)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²). 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.37% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 957 people, 326 households, and 222 families residing in the city. The population density is 67.9/km² (176.1/mi²). There are 357 housing units at an average density of 25.3/km² (65.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 19.44% White, 78.79% Black or African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.94% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 2.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 326 households out of which 30.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.5% are married couples living together, 29.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% are non-families. 27.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.94 and the average family size is 3.70.

In the city the population is spread out with 34.1% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.3 males.
