U.S. Highway 49

US 49 is a north-south United States highway. It was at the junction of Highway 49 and Highway 61 that blues singer Robert Johnson is said to have sold his soul to the Devil.

Termini

As of 2004, the highway's northern terminus is in Piggott, Arkansas at an intersection with US 62. Its southern terminus is in Gulfport, Mississippi at an intersection with US 90. The reported mileage (unconfirmed) is 516 miles.

Alternate Routes

As of 2004, US 49E has a northern terminus in Tutwiler, Mississippi. It rejoins US 49 at Yazoo City, Mississippi. While the main line of US 49 passes through Indianola, US 49E veers to the east to serve Greenwood.
