U de S has a student population of more than 30,000 students, 11,500 of which are there full-time. There are nine faculties at the University: Management, Law, Education, Physical Education, Engineering, Letters and Social Sciences, Medicine, Science, and Theology, Philosophy and Ethics. It is the only university outside of Quebec's urban metropolises to offer a medical school and a law school.
The University was the first French language and second Canadian university to offer co-op (co-operative) programs to its students, which give them hands-on, practical work experience along with the education they receive in the classroom. U de S was also the first university to offer an MBA (Master of Business Administration) program in French, the first in Canada to provide a master's degree in taxation, and the first in Quebec to provide a bachelor's degree in management with a co-op component.
