University College
"
University College" is a name shared by the oldest
colleges at the universities of
Oxford and
Durham. In the name of an independent institution, usually linked with the name of the place the institution is based (e.g. University College Barchester or University College, Barchester) it normally implies a college of higher education that has been granted its own degree-awarding powers (at least at taught-degree level) but has not been granted university status. An exception to this is
University College London, which is the oldest college of the
University of London.
