Urzad Bezpieczenstwa
The
Urzad Bezpieczenstwa (State Security Office), or
UB was the security service of the
communist government of
Poland. It was founded in
1944 and was renamed in
1956 to the
Sluzba Bezpieczenstwa (State Security Service).
The primary duties of the UB/SB were internal security, the recruitment of informants and aggressive covert actions against dissidents.
The slang term for secret policemen in Poland, Ubeks, is derived from the initials of the UB.
