USS Barracuda

Three submarines of the United States Navy have been named USS Barracuda, for the barracuda, a voracious, pike-like fish.

SS-21 was to be named Barracuda, but in 1911, before she was commissioned, her name was changed to F-2.

The first commissioned Barracuda (SF-4/SS-163) was originally named V-1 when she was launched in 1924.

The second Barracuda (SSK-1) was originally named K-1 when she was launched in 1951.
