USS Baton Rouge (SSN-689)
USS Baton Rouge (SSN-689) is a Los Angeles class nuclear powered attack
submarine laid down by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company at Newport News in
Virginia on
18 November 1972, launched on
26 April 1975 and commissioned on
25 June 1977. She collided with a Soviet Sierra class submarine off Severomorsk on
11 February 1992. USS Baton Rouge was placed in commission in reserve on
1 November 1993, decommissioned and stricken from the
Naval Vessel Register on
13 January 1995, and entered the Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program on
30 September 1997.
