Van Buren is a town located in Aroostook County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,369.

\nAs of the census of 2000, there are 2,369 people, 1,005 households, and 627 families residing in the town. The population density is 218.3/km² (565.8/mi²). There are 1,119 housing units at an average density of 103.1 persons/km² (267.2 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.78% White, 0.13% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 0.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,005 households out of which 24.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.4% are married couples living together, 9.5% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 37.6% are non-families. 33.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.69.
