Virginia Apgar

Dr. Virginia Apgar (June 7, 1909 - August 7, 1974) specialised in anesthesia and childbirth. She graduated from Columbia University in 1933.

She introduced the first test for newborn babies, called the Apgar Score(Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, Respiration to assess the health of newborns. It is administered one minute and five minutes after birth.
