Waynesburg is a borough located in Greene County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 4,184. It is the county seat of Greene County6.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 4,184 people, 1,619 households, and 869 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,946.3/km² (5,038.6/mi²). There are 1,811 housing units at an average density of 842.4/km² (2,180.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 96.94% White, 1.63% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,619 households out of which 24.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.4% are married couples living together, 11.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.3% are non-families. 38.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 2.99. In the borough the population is spread out with 18.6% under the age of 18, 24.2% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.4 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $30,990, and the median income for a family is $42,933. Males have a median income of $31,577 versus $22,458 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $15,333. 13.0% of the population and 8.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.5% are under the age of 18 and 11.7% are 65 or older.
