Wellington (region), New Zealand
The
Wellington region of
New Zealand includes the cities of
Wellington,
Lower Hutt,
Upper Hutt and
Porirua, the settlements of the Kapiti Coast, as well as the southern parts of the
Wairarapa and Manawatu regions. The cities of Wellington, the Hutt Valley and Porirua are often combined into a "greater Wellington" urban area.
The Wellington Regional Council (a regional authority) administers the region.
- In New Zealand, regional authorities are primarily responsible for regional transport, water and river management, biosecurity and environmental regulation; while local or territorial authorities are responsible for resource management (urban planning), city services, property rates (land taxes), and community development.
