West Middle German

West Middle German or Franconian is a High German dialect family in the German language.

It is further divided in East Franconian and West Franconian.

East Franconian includes the Main Franconian dialect, spoken near Mainz, in Germany.

West Franconian includes the Kölsch dialect which is spoken near Cologne, Pfälzisch, spoken in the Palatinate and Rheinpfalz, as well as Frankish, a dialect spoken in the Alsace, modern France (often confused with Alsatian, an Alemannic dialect)

Pennsylvania German or Pennsylvania Dutch is also a Franconian dialect.
