Wethersfield was founded in 1634, and claims to be the oldest town in Connecticut. It was settled by farmers relocation from Watertown in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Hartford was settled the year before, but was viewed as only a trading post.
Silas Deane, commissioner to France during the American Revolutionary War, lived in the town, and his house is now part of the Webb Deane Stevens Museum.
