"Where no man has gone before" is a saying used in the introductory sequence of episodes of the science fiction television series Star Trek. It was supposedly said by the infamous Zephram Cochrane, who was the first to fly at warp speed in his ship the Phoenix. This saying was in a speech by Cochrane that described what humans could do with this new warp technology.
In Star Trek: The Next Generation, the word "man" was changed to "one" to avoid sexism.
The term was also the name of a first-season episode of Star Trek.
The phrase has become popular both in popular culture, and in other circles. It has been used by NASA [1] for instance.
