William Hewlett
William R. Hewlett (
May 20,
1913 -
January 12,
2001) was the cofounder, with
David Packard, of the
Hewlett-Packard Company (HP). Bill Hewlett was born in
Ann Arbor, Michigan. Both Hewlett and Packard graduated from
Stanford University in 1934. In
1995 he received the
Lemelson-MIT Prize Lifetime Achievement Award. President of HP from
1964 to 1977, he served as
CEO from 1968 to
1978, when he was succeeded by
John A. Young. He remained chairman of the executive committee until
1983, and then served as vice chairman of the board until
1987.
