William Brandon
Sir William Brandon (
1426 -
August 22,
1485) was an important figure in the
Battle of Bosworth; it was there that he was
Henry VII of England's standard bearer, and was killed by
Richard_III, according to
Polydore Vergil. He appears in
Shakespeare's play
Richard_III_(play).
He was married to Elizabeth Wingfield, with whom he had five children:
- William Brandon, (b. 1476)
- Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, (b. 1484)
- Sir Thomas Brandon
- Sir Robert Brandon
- Eleanor Brandon
Eleanor Brandon would marry a man named John Glemham, and they'd produce a child named Anne, who would marry a man named Henry Pagrave. According to some genealogies, the Pagrave descendants would emigrate to the United States in the early 17th century, and ultimately would produce the Wellington, Fay and Bush family lines, of which Presidents
George H. Bush and
George W. Bush are members.
