Yumjaagiyn Tsedenbal
Yumjaagiyn Tsedenbal (
1916-
1991) was the
communist leader of
Mongolia from the
1940s to the
1980s. During his political life, he served as
prime minister,
president, and general secretary of the
Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party. He rose to power after the death of Horloyn Choybalsan, who was considered to be the Mongolian answer to
Stalin.
Tsedenbal is remembered in Mongolia for successfully maintaining a path of moderate socialism during the Cold War.
