Felix Klein

Felix Christian Klein, German mathematician, born: April 25 1849 in Düsseldorf, Germany, died: June 22, 1925 in Göttingen.

He was a professor at the Universities of Erlangen, Munich, Leipzig and finally Göttingen, teaching mathematics. His major topics were non-Euclidean geometry, group theory and function theory. His enunciation of the Erlangen programme classifying geometries by their underlying group of symmetries was hugely influential: a synthesis of much of the mathematics of its time.
