Halton Regional Municipality, Ontario
Halton Regional Municipality, or
Halton Region, is located in
Ontario,
Canada, and is a part of the
Greater Toronto Area. It is comprised of the city of
Burlington and the towns of
Oakville,
Milton, and
Halton Hills. The town of Oakville and the city of Burlington make up the largely urban area to the south, while the towns of Milton and Halton Hills comprise the largely rural area to the north. Halton Region has a population of 375,229 (
2001) spread out over 232,000 acres of land (967 square kilometres). Its population is expected to reach 439,000 in
2006, making it one of the fastest growing regions in the country. Despite the unprecedented growth in residential development in Halton, agriculture is recognized as the predominant land use.
